Colours & Cultures Festival - We delivered 100 hours of workshops
This year, Through The Lab had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Neon Performing Arts for their Colours and Cultures Festival, a three-day celebration of South London's vibrant community, green spaces, and diverse talents. The festival brought together both established artists and emerging creatives, showcasing their work through performances, workshops, and more.
But the festival wasn't just about what happened on stage—it was also about the behind-the-scenes magic. Young creatives from Lambeth took on the challenge of documenting the entire event, thanks to 100 hours of workshops provided by Through The Lab!
During these sessions, young people gained hands-on experience in filming, editing, and sound capture, preparing them to capture the essence of the festival. They weren't just observers—they were at the heart of the action.
Our young filmmakers documented everything, from interviewing talented dancers and DJs to chatting with local vendors, performers, and even the legendary Big Narstie! They learned how to frame shots, find the best angles, and adjust sound levels to ensure every voice and performance was captured clearly.
Beyond technical skills, the experience was about fostering confidence, teamwork, and creativity. The workshops gave young people a platform to express themselves, while also introducing them to potential careers in the creative industry. They experienced firsthand what it’s like to work on a live event, collaborate with professionals, and create something meaningful for their community.
The Colours and Cultures Festival was more than just an event—it was a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and the strength of community. Through the collaboration of young people and established artists, the festival featured live performances, workshops, DJ sets, and local food markets.
From the "Art in the Park" workshops with Vicky Long to the "Selfhood 2.0" exhibition, and dance performances by Flawless NXT Gen, every moment was a reflection of South London’s creative energy.
Looking forward to what’s next?
